"The entire picture was very shocking. I see a lot of children and this was one of the most shocking things that I've seen."
~Dr. Amy Barton, a child abuse pediatrician crying in her testimony
Two things you should know when you read this.
#1 – The 2 year old girl recovered …
#2 – The 23 year old mother Elizabeth Escalona is currently facing life in prison
There is now a FB page called "Lock up Elizabeth Escalona" HERE.
Let's look at the timeline. On the day of this tragic incident in September of 2011 – Ms. Escalona updated her FB profile with this photo and wrote on her Facebook status "Why does God put obstacles in my life?". The mother was frustrated with 2 year old Jocelyn because of a "potty training issue". So – she dragged her by the feet, super-glued the girl's hands to the wall, kicked her in the stomach and hit her with a milk jug. Ms. Escalona called her mother when the little girl stopped responding; the grandmother sent her to the hospital immediately. Jocelyn was in a coma for 2 days with "extensive bruising, brain swelling, fractured bones, swollen intestines, bruised lungs and an injured liver" according to the Dallas Morning News.
The Dallas Morning News explains the significant injuries HERE:
Evidence photos shown this morning show little Jocelyn with bruises, cuts and bite marks all over her body shortly after she was brought to Children's Medical Center Dallas.
Some of her hair had been pulled out and there was glue in her eyelashes and on her hands. Also on her hands was white paint chips that came off the wall from which she was glued. Chipped blue nail polish could be seen on her fingers Rulers were used to measure the injuries and the size of the toddler. Jocelyn's back measured just six inches wide.
When asked about why she committed these horrible crimes – Ms. Escalona said, "I have no comment, and only God can judge me. That's all I gotta say." This is a picture of her before being sentenced in court.
